Gary Ailes, DVM
Dr. Gary Ailes is the owner of Sierra Veterinary Hospital. In 1974, SVH was established out of a small store front. Since that time, the practice has grown into a 7500 sq. foot freestanding facility known for being one of the best in northern Nevada. Dr. Ailes attended the University of Nebraska before being accepted into the Veterinary School at Colorado State University. He received both his Bachelors of Science and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. Dr. Ailes married Ruth Brown in 1974. Together they have three grown children and have been blessed with 5 granddaughters.
Roger Works, DVM
Roger attended Northern Arizona University before receiving his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. In addition to practicing veterinary medicine, he earned his Master of Public Health from the University of South Carolina with a major in Epidemiology and has served 12 years on the State Board of Health as both a member and chair.
He has resided in Carson City since 1976. He and his wife Marena have four grown children and have been actively involved as Carson City’s 4-H livestock leaders for the past 18 years, assisting youth up to age 19 how to raise and show beef, sheep, swine and dairy cattle.
Janet Arendt, LVT
Janet was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. She received her B.S. in Zoology at Cal Poly, Pomona in 1980 and became licensed as a veterinary technician in California in 1984. While searching for her niche in veterinary medicine, she passed the Zookeeper course at the L.A. Zoo, volunteered at Chino Hills Equine Hospital for a summer, worked at an emergency veterinary hospital in Santa Monica for 2 years and worked for San Bernardino Animal Control at the animal shelter in Devore for 2 1/2 years. She married Jimmy, a computer technician, in 1986 and lived in Rancho Cucamonga before pulling up roots to Carson City. Passing Nevada’s boards, she became a licensed veterinary technician. Their family currently consists of 2 cats, Woody and Buzz, and lots of koi in their man made backyard pond. Traveling, working out at the gym and growing vegetables in her garden are some of her favorite things to do outside of work.
Casey Sills, LVT
Casey grew up in Oklahoma and moved to Nevada in 2004 after a tour of duty in the Navy. In 2010, he graduated from Truckee Meadows Community College and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Casey enjoys doing dental cleanings and educating clients during visits. In his free time, Casey enjoys spending time with his wife Sarah, his two chocolate labs, Bruiser and Coco and watching the fish in his two aquariums.
Jennifer Fox, Vet Tech Assistant
Jennifer is a Nevada native. She has been together with her husband John since 1995 and married 2001. They have 2 daughters, Tristan and Alexis. She has two dogs, Lucas and Rosco and two cats Austin and Chloe. She loves to spend time with her family at the lake, camping in the mountains, spending Sundays together as a family, going to the river and playing fetch in the water with the dogs, drawing and painting and most of all she loves to take photos of everything. She set out in the Veterinary Medicine field in 1994 and she loves all animals.
Aga Chia, Vet Tech Assistant
Aga was born and raised in Poland where she attended the University of Science and Technology. After she graduated with a Masters in Animal Breeding and Food Production in 2005, she moved to Gardnerville where she lives with her husband and two daughters. She loves her two dogs; a Doberman Pincher named Samson and an Ori-Pei named Shira. Aga Enjoys watching movies, reading books and spending time with her family and friends.
Misty Magee, Vet Tech Assistant
Misty has 3 boys, Rex, Jack, and Hans. She has a dachshund mix, Koda and two domestic short hairs, Dougie and Crumbs. She graduated from Carrington College in California in 2011 and was certified as a R.V.T. She came to work at SVH in February 2015. She has also been teaching Dance for 22 years and is currently directing 2 competition teams at Western Nevada Performing Arts. She enjoys camping, riding dirt bikes and spending time with her family at the lake.
Ashlee Alexander, Vet Tech Assistant
Ashlee recently moved to Carson City with a new start in animal care. She previously worked in the medical field with hospital experience as well as working with Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. She enjoyed medicine and loved animals and decided to combine her love joining the team at SVH in 2015. During her free time she enjoys hiking, camping, swimming and playing with her 3 fur babies; Yuri, Roper and Loki. Ashlee is currently pursuing educational goals of acquiring her L.V.T.
Carolyn Thomas, Surgery Prep
Carolyn has worked for Sierra Veterinary Hospital since 2005. She monitors the animals while under anesthesia and manages the surgery prep dept. Carolyn was born in Tennessee. She escaped without a passport in 1980 and joined the Army, eventually being transferred to Alaska where she met her future husband. They lived in Alaska for 15 years.
Talia Brotherton- Vet Tech Assistant
Talia graduated early in 2015 from Silver State Charter School. She has been active in 4-H and FFA throughout school. Her goal is to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She is currently a full-time student at Western Nevada College. She has 3 dogs; Koda a German Shepard, Josie and Tucker who are both Pembroke Welsh Corgis. She also has 1 horse and 1 cat. She enjoys riding her horse, reading and going to concerts.
Monica Rabold- Vet Tech Assistant
Monica was raised in a Navy family and lived around the world. She recently relocated from Portland Oregon and joined SVH in 2016. She previously had a Blue Tick Coonhound, Savannah Renae for 14 plus years. She was a “three-day-eventer” (dressage, cross-country & show jumping) whose passion is horses and hound dogs. She attended Oregon State University from 1995-2000 and studied equine science and has worked in veterinary medicine since 2000. Her hobbies include horses, swimming, camping, music, laughing with her friends and family and hanging with the hounds.
Jessie Helsing, Customer Service Representative
Jessie was born in Beloit, Wisconsin and has lived in Nevada for the past 20 years. Her family includes her mom, dad and brother along with her three dogs; Maggie, Riley and Yuba. She is an avid reader, blogger and loves to go to the beach. She has been at SVH since April 2005.
Sarah Berg – Customer Service Representative
Sarah was born and raised in Carson City. She has been working in the veterinary field since she was 13 years old. She loves all animals, but has always had a soft spot for cats. She has a Golden Retriever named Ginger, a Border Collie mix named Rusty and a kitty named Jackie-Verna. She loves to read, crochet and play with her cat during her free time.
Charly Baron- Customer Service Representative
Charly was born in San Diego, California. She moved to Northern California with her husband and two children, Joshlyn and Russel, to raise their children in the country. In Northern California Charly worked at a mixed animal veterinary practice for 11 years. She loved going on “Ranch Calls” and working with cows, horses and ostriches. The practice did some work with raptors which she said could be a bit scary, “like when you are restraining an Owl and their head seems to turn all the way around.” Charly and her family moved to Carson City in 1998 and they have been clients of SVH since moving. She loves hiking in the hills with her rescue dog “Sassy” and her son’s dog “Sadie”. She started working at SVH in December 2016.
Keli Dimmit- Kennel Team
Keli was born and raised in Nevada. She has worked in the animal industry for the past four years and was formerly a Certified Groomer. She would eventually like to become a licensed veterinary technician. She has 3 chinchillas, 2 ferrets, 2 bearded dragons, a ball python, a cat, a dog and a bunch of fish. During her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, camping and spending time with her family and animals.
Morrigan Heidenrich- Kennel Team
Morrigan was born and raised in Nevada and has a passion for animals for as long as she can remember. Growing up with a variety of animals, her love was further nurtured. During her free time, she enjoys being in the mountains with her dog and going on adventures to new places. Her dream is to one day have a rescue organization of her own as well as combining her love for both animals and photography by photographing wildlife.
Courtney Baxter- Kennel Team
Courtney started working at SVH in 2016. She has a passion for animals and loves working with them. She has a dog named Shawn, a cat named Angel, a hamster named Fluffy, and a pond full of frogs, one of which is named Squeaky. She is currently attending college to become a high school choir teacher. She has participated in a lot of volunteer work over the years inside and outside the community and believes that helping and giving back to community that has enriched her life and given her so many experiences is extremely important to her. Activities that she loves to do during her free time is soccer, swimming, archery, tennis, golf, cheerleading, music, choir, musicals, theater, dance, baking, and camping to name a few. She also loves her family, friends, Church and life.
Sean Campbell, Managing Director
Sean was born in Tonopah, NV, and went to school and graduated in Bishop, CA. He joined SVH in June 2013 as a technician assistant after previously working in the veterinary field in Reno for 7 years. He attended the University of Nevada Reno in the Pre-Vet Med program with intentions of continuing on to Veterinary School. He met and married his wife Laura, of Carson City, in 2011 and decided to stay and become part of the community he grew to love. He and his wife had a son, Isaiah, January 2016 and have 2 Golden Retrievers, Crush and Murphy as their four legged children. His life’s enjoyment is to spend time with family, travel, photography and is somewhat obsessed with baseball and the Yankees.
Shannon O’Neill, LVT Supervisor
Shannon has worked at Sierra Veterinary Hospital since 2005. She received her “Licensed Veterinary Technician” in 2015.
Debbie Fischer, Kennel Supervisor
Debbie has worked at SVH since 2011 and is the kennel supervisor. She has always had a great love for animals. As a child, she was raised with chickens and ducks and currently has a small zoo at her apartment. She has a dog named Bandit, a cat named Lizzy Bell, two conures named Kiwi and Grumpy Ollie, a leopard gecko named Bindi, a tortoise named Herbie and a fish aquarium containing two gold fish and a bottom feeder. Debbie loves working in the kennel and loves all the special dogs and cats that come in for boarding. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren as well as reading and taking walks with Bandit.
