We pride ourselves on providing cutting-edge surgical services that prioritize your pet's comfort, safety, and well-being. Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology and staffed by a team of highly skilled and experienced veterinary surgeons.

We offer a wide range of surgical services, from routine procedures such as spays, neuters, and soft tissue surgeries, to more complex operations like tumor removals and emergency surgeries such as gastrointestinal surgery.

In addition to these traditional services, we also specialize in advanced orthopedic procedures including cruciate ligament surgeries (TPLO and Extracapsular repair), fracture repair and management, and rhinoscopy.

Specific surgeries include:

  • Spay/Neuter Surgery: A surgical procedure to sterilize your pet, preventing unwanted breeding and reducing the risk of certain health issues, such as uterine infections and testicular cancer.
  • Soft Tissue Surgery: A general term for surgical procedures that involve non-bony tissues, such as skin, muscles, and organs, often used to repair injuries, remove tumors, or correct congenital defects.
  • Tumor Removal Surgery: A surgical procedure to remove abnormal growths, such as benign or malignant tumors, to prevent further growth and potential harm to your pet's health.
  • Emergency Surgery: Urgent surgical procedures performed to address life-threatening conditions, such as intestinal blockages, bleeding, or severe injuries.
  • Orthopedic Surgery: Surgical procedures to repair or reconstruct musculoskeletal disorders, such as TPLOs, extracapsular repairs and fracture repair and stabilization to improve your pet's mobility and quality of life.
  • C-Section (Cesarean Section): A surgical delivery procedure performed when a natural birth is not possible, ensuring the safe delivery of puppies or kittens.
  • Dental Surgery: Surgical procedures to address dental issues, such as tooth extractions, gum disease, and oral tumors, to maintain your pet's oral health.
  • Gastrointestinal Surgery: Surgical procedures to address issues related to the digestive system, such as intestinal blockages, foreign body removal, and biopsy collection.
Your pet’s oral health is a significant driver of their overall health. Tartar and plaque buildup, tooth root infections, fractured or dying teeth, and gingivitis (inflammation of gum tissue) are common diseases in pets.

Though pets are often stoic when faced with dental disease, these conditions can lead to pain and inflammation that can travel through the blood to affect internal organs such as the liver, kidneys, and heart over time. As a bonus, many pets have increased energy and youthfulness following dental cleanings.

Our state-of-the-art veterinary hospital is equipped with the latest technology, including a CT scanner to allow for a 3D visualization of your pet's skull, to ensure accurate diagnoses and treatment plans tailored to your pet's unique needs.

Complete oral health assessments and treatments at Sierra Veterinary Hospital include the following:

  • Pre-operative examination: A complete physical examination to ensure your pet is healthy for anesthesia (and surgery, if needed).
  • Pre-operative labwork: A laboratory analysis to gauge the health of internal organs, especially those that process medicines used for anesthesia.
  • Anesthesia: To allow for thorough dental cleaning, even beneath the gum line. We use both digital multi-parameter and analog monitoring throughout all procedures.
  • Skull 3D CT Scan: 3D, specialist-level scan of the entire skull to view skull anatomy at extreme detail, ensuring infected teeth are treated to relieve pain and improve oral health. The gold standard for clear assessment of the entirety of the skull including sinuses, nasal cavity, and inner ear. This also serves as a vital cancer screening tool.
  • Thorough oral exam and dental charting: To assess for presence of oral abnormalities and pocketing around teeth that may indicate dental disease or infection.
  • Professional ultrasonic scaling: Ultrasonic scaler gently removes tartar and plaque, killing bacteria throughout the mouth and ensuring no pockets of infection are left untreated.
  • Professional low-speed polishing: Polishes the teeth to ensure that plaque will not adhere as readily, allowing the teeth to stay cleaner for longer.
  • Surgical tooth extractions: All infected teeth that warrant extraction are surgically extracted using local anesthetic and state-of-the-art instruments to ensure patients spend less time under anesthesia.
At Sierra Veterinary Hospital, we're dedicated to providing top-notch emergency veterinary care for your beloved pets. Our innovative hospital is equipped with the latest technology and staffed by a team of experienced, compassionate veterinarians who are always ready to respond to your pet's emergency needs.

In the event of a veterinary emergency, every minute counts. Our emergency services are designed to provide prompt, effective care for a wide range of conditions, including traumatic injuries, sudden illnesses, respiratory distress, cardiac emergencies, and more. Our team of experts works tirelessly to stabilize your pet's condition, diagnose the underlying cause, and develop a personalized treatment plan to ensure the best possible outcome.

Specific emergencies include:

  • Seizures: Sudden, uncontrolled convulsions that can be life-threatening if not addressed promptly, requiring immediate veterinary attention to identify and manage the underlying cause.
  • Difficulty Breathing: Labored breathing, rapid breathing, or inability to breathe, indicating a potentially life-threatening respiratory emergency that requires urgent veterinary care.
  • Severe Vomiting or Diarrhea, Dehydration: Persistent, severe gastrointestinal symptoms leading to dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and potentially life-threatening complications if left untreated.
  • Trauma or Injury: Severe wounds, fractures, or internal damage caused by accidents, fights, or other traumatic events, requiring immediate veterinary attention to prevent further harm.
  • Sudden Paralysis: Acute loss of mobility or paralysis, potentially caused by spinal cord injuries, strokes, or other neurological emergencies, requiring urgent veterinary care to diagnose and manage the underlying condition.
  • Eye Emergencies: Sudden blindness, severe eye pain, or visible eye injuries, requiring immediate veterinary attention to prevent permanent vision loss or other complications.
  • Severe Allergic Reactions: Acute, life-threatening allergic reactions causing symptoms such as difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat, or collapse, requiring urgent veterinary care to administer emergency treatment.
  • Heatstroke: Elevated body temperature caused by exposure to high temperatures or exercise, potentially leading to life-threatening organ damage if not promptly addressed.
  • Snake Bites: Venomous bites causing pain, swelling, bruising, and potentially life-threatening systemic symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and difficulty breathing, requiring immediate veterinary attention to administer antivenom and manage symptoms.

Note: If you suspect a veterinary emergency, always err on the side of caution and seek immediate veterinary attention.

Our state-of-the-art veterinary hospital is equipped with the latest technology to provide for accurate diagnosis of conditions your pet may experience. Our team of highly-trained and experienced veterinary practitioners are equipped to focus in on whatever ailment your pet may be experiencing.

Our advanced diagnostic offerings include:

  • NewTom 7G CT Scanner (computed tomography): This state of the art machine allows for 3D images of the entire body to view anatomy at extreme detail, ensuring accurate diagnosis of a wide range of conditions. The gold standard for clear assessment of the body.
  • Ultrasound: Ultrasonic waves penetrate tissues in a safe manner to allow for visualization of the internal organs, muscles, gastrointestinal tract, and chest. Often able to be performed without sedation, allowing for detailed diagnosis at the time of your visit. We often use our ultrasound to assess the urinary tract and collect urine samples in a sterile manner.
  • Digital Radiographs (Xrays): Radiographs are frequently used at Sierra Veterinary Hospital to assess the body cavities of patients. Radiographs excel at diagnosing abnormalities with the chest, abdomen, and bones. They also provide a excellent overview to see whether additional diagnostics are necessary. If your pet has a limp or is vomiting, our doctors may recommend radiographs to further assess their condition.
  • Digital Dental Radiographs (Xrays): Although we use our CT scanner for the majority of our dental patients, our dental xray unit is excellent for assessing oral health in a detailed manner, allowing for focused assessment of specific areas. It is also useful for our exotic patients whose size may be better suited for a focused xray beam.
  • In-House Laboratory: We have a comprehensive laboratory to allow for the rapid diagnosis of urgent and emergent conditions, as well as when you'd simply rather not wait for results. Our laboratory is equipped with modern blood machines, digital and manual microscopes, centrifuges, and rapid tests for a variety of conditions.
  • Rhinoscopy: This procedure involves the examination of the nasal passage with a thin cylindrical camera, allowing for the assessment of the fine, fragile tissues of the nose. We often perform rhinoscopy while searching for grass seeds and other foreign objects in the nasal cavity. This is also an important imaging modality for cancer screening.
  • Laparoscopy: Used with minimally invasive surgeries, laparoscopy allows for the visualization of the abdomen via camera. Minimally invasive surgeries allow for surgery via a very small incision, reducing blood loss and healing time. It is also useful for active dogs who have trouble with activity restrictions during recovery from conventional surgery.
